Dental Technician

Every physical person is eligible to register to the Dental Technicians Registry, provided that the Cyprus Council for the Registration of Dental Technicians and Laboratories is satisfied that the following criteria are met:

• Is a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus or of another EU member state;
• Is at least twenty one years old;
• Is of a good character;
• Holds a Degree or Diploma in Dental Technology, obtained by a university or school that the Cyprus Council for the Registration of Dental Technicians and Laboratories (Council) deems recognized and has practical experience of at least six months at an accredited by the Council dental laboratory; or
• Holds a professional degree in Dental Technology or an equivalent degree recognized by the Council and has practical experience of at least one year at an accredited by the Council dental laboratory; or
• Have practical experience, in another EU member state, at a dental laboratory that is accredited by the competent authority of the EU member state of establishment.

The application for registration to the Dental Technician Register can be submitted either through the PSC Cyprus or by contacting directly the competent authority:

1. The application should be accompanied by the following documents:

   • Copy of degree or diploma (along with certified translation of the degree or diploma);
   • Copy of identity card or passport;
   • Copy of dental technician’s practice licence issued by the competent authority of the EU member state of establishment (if applicable);
   • Registration fee receipt of €51 (payable either by cheque or bank transfer).

The registration fee is €51 and is payable either by cheque or bank transfer.

Administrative Action Against a Competent Authority’s Decision

Any person may file an Administrative Action at the Administrative court against a decision, act or omission of any competent authority or body.

Pursuant to Article 146 of the Constitution, an Administrative Action may be lodged within 75 days from the date of the decision or act or omission or from the day when such decision or act or omission was notified to the applicant.

The Administrative Court acts as a cassation Court and not as a substantive Court. In other words, the Administrative Court may:
I. Dismiss the Administrative Action
II. Annul wholly or partially the contested decision or act
III. Compel the relevant authority or body to take a certain action

After a decision is annulled, the authority and/or public body must reverse things back to the state prior to when the concerned decision and/or act was executed and reexamine.

Appeal Information

An Appeal may be filed against the Administrative Court’s first-instance decision within a period of 42 days from the date such a decision was given.

At the Supreme Court (Court of Appeal Section) hearing, the contested issue of the appeal remains the legality of the decision or act already adjudicated. However, such a revision of the legality of the decision or act is solely examined on the matters and the extent that the two parties have limited the reasons in the relevant notice of appeal.

The decision adopted by the Supreme Court is considered final in relation to the matter that has been judged.

Registered Dental Technicians are obliged to comply with the provisions of The Regulating the Practice of the Dental Technicians Profession Law and Regulations of 1996, as periodically amended.

The Cyprus Council for the Registration of Dental Technicians and Laboratories is the delegated body to exercise disciplinary control to the registered dental technicians and impose disciplinary penalties, such as the deletion from the registry of Dental Technicians, the temporary suspension of the authorisation to exercise the dental technician etc.
